Hi there, You are invited to a Zoom webinar. When: Dec 8, 2020 03:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) Topic: Resisting the Racism of Covid-19 Register in advance for this webinar: https://syracuseuniversity.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ILqa0t7XTvKG0q5aRoj0KA After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. ---------- Webinar Speakers Carrie Mae Weems (Artist-in-Residence @Syracuse University) Carrie Mae Weems is considered one of the most influential contemporary American artists. She is the creator of Resist Covid!/Take 6 project. Throughout her career, she has investigated family relationships, cultural identity, sexism, class, political systems, and the consequences of power. Determined as ever to enter the picture—both literally and metaphorically—Weems has sustained an on-going dialogue within contemporary discourse for over thirty years. During this time, Carrie Mae Weems has developed a complex body of art employing photographs, text, fabric, audio, digital images, installation, and video. Kishana Taylor, PhD (Post-doctoral Researcher @Carnegie Mellon University) Dr. Taylor works in the lab of Dr. Elizabeth Wayne in the department of Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. Their work focuses on the role of monocytes in the development of severe COVID-19. She is an alumni of the Diaz-Munoz Lab at UC-Davis where she focused on understanding patterns and frequencies of influenza reassortment. She was part of the inaugural class of the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. program at The University of Georgia. Her degree track focused on disease ecology. She received a B.S. in animal science from the University of Delaware and an M.S. in public health microbiology and emerging infectious disease (PHMEID). Dr. Taylor seeks to combine her knowledge from both areas of her education by taking an interdisciplinary approach to investigating zoonotic disease and arboviruses. Crispin Hernandez (Community Organizer @Workers Center of Central New York) Hernandez is a community organizer with the Workers Center of CNY who mobilizes low-wage workers employed by the region’s dairy farms. He worked as one of the leading members of the Green Light NY Coalition, which successfully lobbied the New York State Legislature to restore equal access to driver’s licenses to all state residents, regardless of immigration status.
